Sri Lanka has countless beautiful beaches. In the eastern part, some beaches are empty, and in the south, numerous charming bays are dotted with huge rocks. Certain coastal towns are ideal for surfing if you’re looking to (learn how to) surf, and other beaches are appropriate to relax, and some bays are worth visiting to enjoy their great eateries and hotspots. In this guide, I’ll give you all the information about the most stunning three beaches of Sri Lanka and which beaches will be most accurate and will suit your needs.
Trincomalee: Miles of empty beaches in the northeastern region of Sri Lanka
Trincomalee is a city in the northeast region of Sri Lanka. Within the region, there are amazing beaches that few people go to. The most well-known beach in the area is Uppuveli Beach, a nice beach with several cozy beach bars. There are also plenty of excellent hotels here, like Silaa Cabana. Uppuveli Beach is only four kilometres from Trincomalee.
If you are on Sri Lanka travel and want to travel to truly empty beaches where you can sit and relax with the waves and sip coconuts in solitude, then go to Nilaveli Beach. The four-kilometre-long beach is empty in a lot of places. On weekends, you can see children from the area enjoying the waves, but during the week, there’s not much. Nilaveli Beach is nine kilometres away from Trincomalee.
Another peaceful, quieter beach is Marble Beach, 15 km from Trincomalee. The Air Force owns the beach, so don’t be surprised to see troops wandering around. It is a great place to snorkel! The accurate way to reach it is to hire a motorbike for between 1000 and 1500 Rupi per day.
Talalla Beach: high waves and many palm trees!
Palm trees, big waves, and a pristine blue sea—Talalla is a beautiful beach that makes you feel like you’re the only person on the planet. It’s ideal for a long walk along the coast! Behind the palm trees, you can discover a variety of hotels and restaurants, but they are hidden from view.
Tangalle: The less crowded south!
Tangalle is located situated in the south-west of Arugam Bay. It’s an ideal location for national parks, such as Udawalawe National Park and Bundala National Park; however, you will also find gorgeous beaches in this area!
At Tangalle Beach, a large bay that has a long beach, there is an array of entertainment with beach bars and good restaurants; however, on the less crowded Secret Beach, you can barely find anyone. Here, the waves are ideal for playing in (Ries is his preferred activity on a beach). At this beach, you can’t find much other aside from palm trees and rocks. The only beach beds available to hire are very expensive (1000 Rupee, or 5 Euro) So, bring towels and sit on the sandy beach.
Another gorgeous beach close to Tangalle The most beautiful beach near Tangalle is Goyambokka Beach. The beach is not crowded; however, it does have amenities like restaurants with beach beds where you can relax for free after a glass of wine.
